Comments and News - Tuesday, April 25, 2006 The thing in Mir's pocket is a flash phone. Think of it as the love child of a cell phone and an ipod. 75% of it is the plastic molded to fit around your ear. It has no mechinizm for manuel dialing--it is voice activated and the phone numbers, or "codes" are stored in the flash phone. If you need to dial something not stored inside the flash phone, you can either call information or attach the phone to a dialing station--usually installed in cars, they can be stored in a purse or on a watch. Reaching someone not programed in your phone is, logically, a pain in the butt. However, once someone's code is stored--an eleven digit number, same as present-day phone numbers--reaching them is as simple as saying "connect" and the person's name. Answering is also simple. "Hi" is the programmed answer word. "Bye" turns the thing off. This is the default and CAN be changed, but most people don't bother.
Larger communication systems, such as the Hotel New Boston's holographic number, operate differently and are much more flexible. The telephone/cellular phone has the same...lets call it "presence" in this age that the telegraph did in the ninteen twenties. People still used it, but it was motivated mostly through habit.
And we're moving into yet another quiet peroid. Hopefully it'll clarify a few things, but defenite ANSWERS won't be coming for a while yet. We're getting there, though.
Artistically...I really like this page.
News:
Not much. Forum visits and comments are both still appreciated. :D Honestly, though, I'm a lil too much on the tired side to do much more than ramble on about imaginary technology. See ya'll Thursday!
